How to purchase USDC on Avalanche using the Fonbnk option in MetaMask

1. Log in to your MetaMask mobile application -> Press on the network drop down list (For most users this should say Ethereum Main Network at the top) ->Select Add Network

                                           

2. You will be taken to a list of pre-approved networks -> Click on the “Add” button next to Avalanche Network C-Chain -> Click approve on the following popup

                                                             

3. If prompted to swap to the Avalanche chain do so. Verify that you see Avalanche Mainnet C-Chain at the top as seen below. If you do not see Avalanche, press on this area and switch to Avalanche. 

                                     

4. You will be brought to the main token holdings of your Avalanche address. From here you can click on “Buy AVAX” as seen in the image below. Please note if this is your first time performing this task USDC won’t automatically be showing, we will detail how to add this in the following steps.                                                                                                                                                                                                                   
5. To add USDC you will need to import the token. Begin this process by pressing on the “Import tokens” button highlighted below. You will be brought to the import token screen. In the search bar type USDC. Once you have selected the token displayed below, scroll down and press “Import”.

                                                                                                                 

6. After clicking on buy AVAX you will be brought to the following screen. Press on the “You want to buy” section which will currently be AVAX. In the list that appears, select USDC.

                                                  

7. Next you will need to select the “Update payment method” option and swap to a supported payment method. 

Please choose a payment method depending on your country:

• • • For Kenya: Select “Mobile Money”
    • For Nigeria: Select “Local Manual Bank Transfer”
    • For Ghana: Select “Mobile Money”
    • For Uganda: Select “Mobile Money”

                                         

8. You will now enter the amount that you want to buy and select “Get quotes”

                                                               

9. Next you will be presented with the following screen displaying your quote. From here you can press “Continue with Fonbnk”                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         
10. You will be brought to a screen with detailed information about your transaction. On this screen you will need to verify your phone. Press on “Next: Verify your phone”. The next page will have you enter your number. Please make sure you do not input a “0” at the start of your number. You will then be brought to a USSD code popup, press on “Dial the code”                                                                                                                                                                            
11. After your number is verified you will be redirected back to the transaction. You can review the transaction again before proceeding by pressing on “Transfer the funds”. You will then be taken to a page where you can confirm you have sent the funds. Please wait for the USSD code dialogue to pop up before proceeding

 
        

12. Once you have entered your PIN and transferred the funds your order will be processed. If the app does not automatically move onto the next step you can press “I Transferred”. If the USSD code does not launch you will be able to retry after a short period of time. You will be greeted with an Order Confirmed page upon successful completion.

                                                                  

13. Press on “Back to MetaMask” to be brought back to your MetaMask homepage. You will now see the USDC displayed in your account.
